Easter Cards by Maria Innocentia Hummel

M. I. Hummel created numerous postcards with religious motifs. Easter cards were an obvious choice by her publisher, so she made several series. Some were focused on church-related activities, some portrayed children, Hummel's another popular theme, and some just presented Easter symbols in different situations.

This page shows Maria Innocentia Hummel's huge range of artistic expression with a few sets of vintage postcards presenting different areas of Easter celebrations, from very spiritual to very casual and playful.

It is our intention to expand this page in the future but for now, there are 14 different Easter postcards by Hummel. All cards were published by ARS SACRA.

Good Friday is part of the Easter week. Such postcards are very rare so you are in a special treat.

Candles and singing are important elements of Easter.

We can see how effective was Hummel's style even when limited just to different shades of red color.

Angels are popular on easter postcards from the very beginning. Here we can see another one, this time in a more playful setting.

Lambs are another option. The lamb is a symbol of abundance and let's not forget the role of the lamb as the animal for sacrifice in the Old Testament.

Did you even notice a lamb? It can dominate the scene or it can be used as a mere decorative detail.

If it's small enough you can put a lamb in an Easter basket!

Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel used a similar technique with a limited set of colors for Easter postcards with lambs too.

This time the lamb shares space with the main motif of birth and rebirth, associated with the pagan roots of this major Christian holiday as well as with the main Christian belief.

Eggs and chickens are closely related symbols of new life, optimism, and hope.

Flowers and greenery go well with everything. Especially with Easter.

So many chickens can mean only one thing: abundance. Winter is over, spring is here.

The Easter bunny is a bit more modern symbol but we can also trace it way back to Pagan roots where a hare means the end of coldness and the beginning of new life coming with spring and summer.

With this lovely bunny greeting card we conclude our presentation of Maria Innocentia Hummel's Easter picture postcards. Here you can enjoy even more vintage Easter cards. If you enjoyed the journey, share this article with your friends.
